We start the race with pacelap. Speed is limited to 90 mph/145 km/h. The leader has to start (full acceleration) the race between the end of the last turn and the s/f-line. If the race is once started, there is no way back, overtaking is allowed immediately!
P4... Aber das hat Laune gemacht! Mit Robert hinten mir zuerst ging es die ersten Runden gut los, bis die Reifen heiß wurden. Sowas sollte man bestenfalls managen... Gelang mir aber nicht, da ich vom Stil her sehr gerne mit dem Gas steuere, was nun nur dazu führte, dass die Vorderreifen in einem guten Temperaturfenster blieben, aber die Hinterreifen vollkommen überhitzen. Da war ich wirklich hart an der Kante vor dem Abgrund, das Auto war wirklich sehr wacklig. Nachdem Robert nach etwas Inkonstanz meinerseits rangekommen war, entschied ich mich, ihn ziehen zu lassen, weil er die bessere Pace hatte, um eventuell zu Greg aufzuschließen. Da wollte ich mich eigentlich im Windschatten mitziehen lassen, machte aber einige kleine Fehler, durch die ich keinen Windschatten bekommen konnte. Nun hatte Robert Greg vor sich und konnte überholen und auch wegziehen, ein paar Runden später gelang mir das auch.
Nachdem nun etwas Benzin weggebrannt war, waren nun auch die Hinterreifen nicht mehr so stark überhitzt und so war ich noch mal voll auf Attacke eingestellt im Kampf um den letzten Podestplatz. Von etwa 1,4s Rückstand kam ich an einem Punkt sogar runter bis auf 0,9s oder 1,0s, dann hatte ich aber wieder eine leicht inkonstantere Phase. Statt 53,5, die ich zu dem Zeitpunkt schon gefahren war, waren es nun mehrere 53,7er und ich fiel wieder auf 1,5s bis 1,6s zurück. In den letzten 10 Runden konnte ich noch mal minimal aufholen (glaube ich zumindest :D), bis dann 3 Runden vor Schluss noch mal Verkehr aufkam in Form von Tim und Mario. Tim ließ uns beide vorbei, Mario aber ging mit den blauen Flaggen nach seiner Interpretation der Dinge um und kämpfte richtig mit Robert und mir... War das wirklich nötig? Klar musst du deine Position nicht aufgeben, aber bei uns ging es im direkten Duell um P3, da hätte ich persönlich anders gehandelt. So konnte ich auf der finalen Geraden noch mal mit Windschatten Anlauf nehmen, kam aber 50 Tausendstel hinter Robert ins Ziel!
Glückwunsch an Fabian (!!! :)), Claudio und Robert für die Podestplätze und an alle Ankommer! Schade für alle DNFs, man würde ja vielleicht denken, dass man auf einem Oval eigentlich die besten Chancen für ein Finish hat... So steht für mich nicht mal ein Podestplatz zu Buche, dafür aber immerin ein neuer Indy BRM WR, gerade so von Robert im Quali geholt... ;) Danke für das Rennen allerseits und ein schönes Wochenende wünsche ich euch!
P4... But it was fun! With Robert behind me, the first laps went well until the tyres got hot. That's something you should manage at best... But I didn't succeed, because my style is to steer with the gas, which only led to the front tyres staying in a good temperature window, but the rear tyres completely overheating. There I was really hard on the edge before the abyss, the car was really very wobbly. After a bit of inconsistency on my part, I decided to let Robert go because he had the better pace to possibly catch up with Greg. Then I actually wanted to let myself be pulled along in the slipstream, but made some small mistakes that didnt allow me to get a slipstream. Now Robert had Greg in front of him and could overtake and also pull away, a few laps later I managed to do the same.
After some fuel had burnt off, the rear tyres were no longer so overheated and so I was once again fully on the attack in the fight for the last podium place. From a gap of about 1.4s I even got down to 0.9s or 1.0s at one point, but then I had a slightly inconsistent phase again. Instead of 53.5s, which I had been doing at that point, it was now several 53.7s and I dropped back to 1.5s to 1.6s. In the last 10 laps I was able to make up some ground (at least I think so :D), until 3 laps before the end there was traffic again in the form of Tim and Mario. Tim let us both pass, but Mario dealt with the blue flags according to his interpretation of things and really fought with Robert and me... Was that really necessary? Of course you don't have to give up your position, but in our case it was a direct duel for P3, so I personally would have acted differently. So I could take a run-up with slipstream on the final straight, but I finished 50 thousandths behind Robert!
Congratulations to Fabian (!!! :)), Claudio and Robert for the podium places and to all finishers! Too bad for all the DNFs, you might think that on an oval you actually have the best chances for a finish.... So I don't even have a podium, but I still have a new Indy BRM WR, just snathcing it off Robert in quali... ;) Thanks for the race everyone and have a great weekend!
The first time with the 67s in Indi. Promptly made one rookie mistake after another. Tested in practice for the race set-up to get rid of the red tyres on the right side and then surprised by the formation lap, etc. ... no fun this time - but at least I learned something new ;) GRATS Podium and THX for orga
Im Quali fuhr ich eine PB, wurde aber von Greg mitgezogen. Am Ende reichte es nur für P4, obwohl das Quali sehr eng war.
Nach dem Start war ich ein bisschen langsamer als erwartet und verlor den Anschluss an Lasse. Dann hat Fabian aufgeholt und mich überholt. Irgendwann war die Balance auf der Kippe und ich musste das Auto retten, als ich dicht hinter Lasse war. Dann kämpfte ich ein bisschen mit Lasse und konnte ihn überholen, als er ein bisschen zur Seite ging. Dann schloss ich zu Greg auf und überholte ihn. Greg war vernünftig und hat mich nicht überholt, sondern vom Windschatten profitiert. Aber beim Überrunden der Autos hat er den Anschluss verloren.
Später war dann Lasse wieder dran, aber der Abstand blieb gleich, bis wir kurz davor waren, Tim und Willi zu überrunden. Tim ließ uns ziehen, aber als ich Willi überholte, ging er wieder an mir vorbei. Damit hatte ich nicht gerechnet, sonst hätte ich die Innenseite verteidigt. Dann bin ich auch noch in die Mauer gefahren und habe das Auto beschädigt. Ich musste die Innenseite von Willi verteidigen und Lasse schloss auf. Ich hatte gerade noch genug Vorsprung, um das Auto auf P3 zurückzubringen, da das Auto nach dem Einschlag in die Mauer schlecht fuhr. Ich bin zufrieden mit dem Podium und einem engen Finish mit Lasse.
Glückwunsch an Fabian für den Sieg! Gratulation auch an Claudio für P2. Gut gemacht, liebe Fahrer. Das war harte Arbeit, sehr heiß hier und sehr schweißtreibend.

In quali set a PB, but had a bit of tow from Greg. in the end it was only P4, very close quali though.
After the start was a bit slower than expected, and lost touch with Lasse. Then Fabian closed up and passed me. At some point the balance was on the edge and had to save the car when close behind Lasse. Then had a bit of a fight with Lasse, and could clear him when he went sideways a bit. Then closed up with Greg and passed him. Greg was sensible and did not repass me but profited from the tow. But when lapping cars he lost touch.
Then later Lasse was behind again, but the gap stayed the same until we were about to lap Tim and Willi. Tim let us go, but when I lapped Willi, he repassed me. I did not expect that, otherwise I would have defended the inside. Then I hit the wall as well damaging the car. Had to defend the inside from Willi and Lasse closed up. I just had enough margin to bring back the car in P3 as the car drove badly after I hit the wall. Happy with the podium, and a close finish with Lasse.
Congrats Fabian for the win! Also grats to Claudio for P2. Well done finishers. That was hard work, very hot here and very sweaty.
Ich bin endlich einmal wieder mit Vorfreude in ein Rennen gegangen. Erstens weil ich auf Ovale weniger Probleme habe mit dem Sehen und zweitens, weil ich ein gutes Setup hatte und bei Vortests eine 52,68 geschafft hatte. Das es dann so eng werden würde hatte ich nicht erwartet. Trotzdem hatte ich die Pol.
Am Start dachte ich mir sehr spät zu beschleunigen um ein eventuelles überholen aus dem Windschatten zu erschweren. Nachdem das geklappt hatte, versuchte ich einfach sauber zu fahren um den Abstand zu erhöhen. Auch das klappte. Ich konzentrierte mich an der Anzeige an den vermeintlichen schnellen. Also Greg, Robert und Lasse A.
Auf einmal sah ich Fabian auf P2 und sofort erinnerte ich mich wie Stark Fabian auf den Ovalen ist. Ich versuchte wenigstens den Abstand von über 2 sec. zu halten. Vorher versuchte ich auch immer Rote Temperaturen zu vermeiden. Aber dann merkte ich, das obwohl rechts alles Rot war und Temperaturen von 155 - 170 stand, ich trotzdem immer schneller wurde! Also ignorierte ich die Temperaturen und gab alles. Aber er kam immer näher! Ok, er hatte ja auch den Lotus und ich wusste das ich Ihn nicht halten konnte.
Irgendwann kam das überholen und da ich auf den Rest des feldes einen großen abstand hatte war die Devise den Platz ins Ziel zu bringen. Was auch gelang. Zum Hattrick hat es zwar nicht gereicht, bin aber trotzdem überglücklich wie die letzten Rennen gelaufen sind.

Nevertheless, I had the pole.
At the start I thought of accelerating very late to make it more difficult to overtake from the slipstream. After that worked, I just tried to drive cleanly to increase the gap. This also worked. I concentrated on the supposed fast ones. So Greg, Robert and Lasse A.
Suddenly I saw Fabian on P2 and immediately I remembered how strong Fabian is on the ovals. I tried to at least keep the gap of more than 2 sec. Before I tried to avoid red temperatures. But then I noticed that even though everything was red on the right and the temperatures were 155-170, I was still getting faster and faster! So I ignored the temperatures and gave everything. But he was getting closer and closer! Ok, he had the Lotus and I knew that I couldn't hold him.
At some point I had to overtake him and since I had a big gap to the rest of the field, I had to try to finish the race in the same place. And I succeeded. It wasn't enough for a hat trick, but I'm still overjoyed with how the last races went.

It was only possible thanks to a top setup (I had 5 or so unused laying in the setup folder. Lucky pick, I guess!). The car seemed to be "un-spinnable" . Just the price seemed to be reduced top-speed, as far as I could deduct. I'll explore into it, the next time I'm here in a Lotus (if I'll remember it after X years... hahaha)
Despite the top setup + Lotus advantage it took me half the race to reach Claudio. (If I had started at the back maybe it would have been a different story...) I think he - but also most of the other drivers - did an awesome job! At the end of the race I wasn't that far off from Claudio and the others. Congratulations. Strong performances! I am just glad, I didn't influence the championship by crashing with anyone... Mission accomplished. :)
@Claudio Callipo Sorry to have "spoiled the party" - considering I'm currently just a "guestdriver". :/
Yes. Just as a sidenote: I explained the logic of helping out small teams in the "car choice"-thread and nobody objected on the prospect of driving the Lotus or Eagle... I'd take it up in the BRM(/Cooper), I don't look for an advantage.

@Fabian, don't worry. Of course you can drive whatever you want. I am absolutely not out for a hat trick. In my condition I'm happy for every top 5 finish as if it was a victory. You'll see at the next races where I always end up. And it's always better when others win, too, and not always the same ones. That gives the whole thing a nice spice.
